Description

A truly massive fishtail palm that takes on an umbrella shape with leaves up to 6m long.  Very impressive but requires space.

 

Origin

Thailand.

 

Form and size

Massive solitary palm to 30m (much less in cultivation) with long, arching leaves.

 

Preferred habitat

Outdoors with some protection from wind.  Water well in summer.  Whilst we caution against wind, sun and salt spray one of the best examples of this rare species may be seen overlooking the Auckland Harbour Bridge at St. Mary's Bay.
