Description

A well-grown clump of Euterpe edulis just screams ‘tropical’.  The thin stems and arching leaves are graceful and make one think of the steaming Amazon Basin.  Surprisingly hardy they look best in clumps rather than as solitary palms.

Origin

South-eastern Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, and Paraguay.

Form and size

Solitary palm to 8m.

Preferred habitat

Outdoors with protection from wind.  Looks best if grown in groups and in sheltered gullies. Water well in summer.  Also suitable for indoor use tolerating low light.
